DIFFERENT TYPES OF THRILLERS

Action/Adventure Thrillers

Action thrillers are fast-paced with a center and definite plot.  They suport Propp's charater theory and follow the line that every action thriller has: 
  • A hero
  • A villan
  • A donor
  • A (magical) helper
  • The Princess
  • The father of the princess
  • The dispatcher
  • A victim
  • The helper
It also suports Propp's narative theory, the story line follows the order of:
  • Preparation
  • Complication
  • Transferance
  • Struggle
  • Return
This is evendent in all action thrillers and is used as the bassic guildlnes to follow when each action thriller is made.

SCI-FI THRILLERS

Sci-fi thrillers is a sub-genre of thriller that deals with the impact of imagined innovations in science of technology. They are usually set in the future and include themes of futuristic science and technology, space travel and parallel universe, aliens, and paranormal activities.

An example of a Sci-fi thriller is Michael Crichton's The Andromeda Strain

CRIME THRILLERS
Crime thrillers are thrillers that deals with crimes, their detection, criminals and their motives.

An example of the crime thriller is texas killing fields.




CONSPIRACY THRILLER
Conspiracy thrillers are thrillers that are often based around journalism and/or investigations. The story line often follows the idea of a conspiracy that is being unraveled and evolved through the plot of the movie, usually due to deception, lies and plot twists. 

An example of a conspiracy thriller is Blow Out (1981)
 


 POLITICAL THRILLER
Political thrillers are made with the themes of a political experiences and legality disputes. 

An example of a political thriller is JFK (1991) 
 


SPY THRILLER
Spy thrillers are thrillers that consists of ideas that generally involved the government and terrorism. Spy thrillers however usually fall into other sub-genres such as action, crime and science fiction.

An example of a spy thriller is Spy Game (2001)
 


PSYCHOLOGICAL THRILLER
Psychological thrillers are thrillers that present aspects of drama is mystery. They rely on the idea of suspense and on mental resources to solve situations.

An example of a psychological thriller is Taxi Driver
